Oculoplastic and Eyelid Surgery

Oculoplastic surgery is a subspecialty of eye care that focuses on your eyelids, tear ducts, eye sockets (orbits), and the surrounding structures of your face.

Ptosis surgery

A procedure to tighten or reattach the muscle that lifts your upper eyelid (the levator muscle). The incision is hidden in your natural eyelid crease. The procedure takes approximately 30 to 60 minutes.

Entropion or ectropion repair

Your surgeon tightens the loose tendons and muscles of your lower eyelid, sometimes removing a small amount of excess skin or tissue. The eyelid is returned to its normal position against your eye. The procedure takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes.

Blepharoplasty (upper or lower eyelids)

Upper blepharoplasty
This procedure removes excess skin, muscle, and sometimes fat through an incision hidden in your eyelid crease. It takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes.

Lower blepharoplasty
This procedure removes or repositions excess fat and skin. The incision is made just below your lower eyelashes (transcutaneous) or on the inside of your eyelid (transconjunctival), leaving no visible scar. The procedure takes approximately 45 to 90 minutes.

Tear duct surgery (DCR)

Your surgeon creates a new passage between your tear sac and your nasal cavity, bypassing the blocked duct. This can be done externally through a small incision beside your nose (external DCR) or internally through your nostril using an endoscope (endonasal DCR). The procedure takes approximately 60 to 90 minutes.
